Stone Youth Marching Band is an independent, traditional style youth marching band formed by ex-leaders and members of Stone Scout & Guide Band in 2027.

Our members are predominantly children and young people supported by adult instructors and receive 2.5 hours tuition each week in both music and marching. They regularly take part in a variety of events and performances across the Midlands.

We are proud to continue Kath & Bryan Pickering’s legacy of providing musical opportunities to young people in Stone, Staffordshire and the surrounding areas.

Mission Statement

"To empower young people to reach their full potential through music, peer collaboration, and community action - regardless of their background or financial situation."

Our core values
  1. Break down financial and social barriers to ensure all young people can access music education.

  2. Fuel personal growth so every young person can discover and achieve their full potential.

  3. Foster peer collaboration, building strong networks of teamwork and mutual support.

  4. Drive community action, empowering members to make a meaningful, lasting local impact.

About Stone Scout & Guide Band

Stone Scout & Guide Band was founded in the 1980s by Kath Pickering, ably (and often, hilariously) supported by her husband, Bryan, after they were inspired during a Scouting event. A joint venture between Girlguiding UK and The Scout Association, the Band was warmly received by Stone residents and has been a permanent fixture in the town ever since.

The band enjoyed huge success in its time, taking part in several exciting opportunities, including training with the Royal Marines Band Service on Whale Island, competing against other youth marching bands at competitions the length and breadth of the UK, playing at the Royal Albert Hall and even marching as part of the Battle of the Flowers parade in Jersey!

In Memoriam

Here, we wanted to remember the wonderful and dedicated individuals who are no longer with us, but made a huge impact during Stone Scout & Guide Band's 40-year history.
